Working across contemporary art and spatial design, Rachel explores the relationship between light, natural materials, architecture and the human experience of space.
She creates artworks and spatial design projects that invite stillness, reflection and sensory awareness. While they originate from different starting points, they share the same sensitivity to light, material, context and space.
Originally trained as a photographer, Rachel gradually developed her practice into three-dimensional work, where light became a material in its own right, shaping space, revealing texture and influencing perception. This foundation continues to inform her careful attention to composition, atmosphere and the experience of space.
Natural materials form the foundation of Rachel’s practice. Drawn to materials that possess honesty and the ability to develop a rich patina over time, she works closely with artisans, manufacturers and specialist makers, exploring both traditional craftsmanship and contemporary production techniques. Rather than concealing the effects of time, her work embraces them, allowing materials to reveal their character and quiet beauty through age, use and light.
Whether developing an autonomous artwork or designing a spatial project, she creates artworks and spaces that possess a timeless quality, revealing themselves gradually and inviting a deeper awareness of space through light and material.
Her approach is rooted in close observation and an intuitive understanding of context, translating the needs of both place and people into spaces that feel natural, calm and deeply personal.
